LAPEER —The Lapeer County Surgery Center (LCSC) helps people from Lapeer County and the surrounding areas get back to a pain-free life without the difficulty or expense of overnight hospital stays, and the 36-member team prides themselves on the exceptional care they provide their patients.

The physicians and staff at LCSC remain committed to providing the highest quality of care to each of their patients. Over the years, these physicians have listened to the needs of their patients and colleagues. Through these conversations, and the ever-changing world of health care reimbursement, they came to realize there was a need for an alternative health care facility. It was their loyalty to this community which inspired these visionaries to build such a facility in Lapeer.

LCSC is the vision of nine area physicians who understood a need for an alternative healthcare facility. LCSC is now a fully-equipped, state-of-the-art facility with a specially trained staff. From the time of registration, to the beautiful semi-private waiting area, to the designated private discharge area, the patient and family will feel their personal needs are being respected.

As with most out-patient surgical centers, LCSC provides a unique opportunity to provide some efficiencies not afforded by other health care facilities. All surgeries at LCSC are scheduled, non-emergent cases. This important component is a tremendous benefit to the patient and physicians.

Last year, the staff at LCSC celebrated performing more than 100 knee replacement surgeries, a popular procedure to help get patients’ lives back on track. Along with dozens of knee replacements, the staff also completed a number of outpatient hip replacement surgeries, which are also a necessary and popular procedure for many individuals in the community. Along with joint replacements, LCSC also specializes in carpal tunnel, colonoscopy, vasectomy, hernia repair, cataract surgery, plastic surgery and more.

Kelly Watson, a registered nurse, operating room circulating nurse and the LCSC total joint coordinator, said, “Over the course of all of our knee, hip and shoulder replacement procedures, we have had zero infections and we’ve even had some patients come back to have their other knee replaced after a successful first surgery.”

Watson added that patient selection is key to a successful outcome, saying, “Our patients are thoroughly screened prior to their procedure. Not only is it important that the patient is healthy, but motivation and good support at home is what continues to make this a success.”

LCSC works with a wide variety of insurance plans to make sure their patients can take advantage of lower costs. In fact, outpatient total joint replacement can cost less than conventional procedures, and many providers are reviewing reimbursement schedules for lower costs for both patients and insurers.
