Security Credit Union hosts Support Our Troops donation drive

LAPEER COUNTY — Security Credit Union (SCU) has partnered with Operation Care Package of Michigan and I Support the 1% Veteran Food Pantry to host its annual “Support Our Troops” donation drive in support of the United States Active Military and Veterans. Donations will be accepted at all SCU’s branches in Michigan through Nov. 30.

In Lapeer County, SCU operates branches in Imlay City, Lapeer and Mayfield Township.

Operation Care Package of Michigan provides deployed military service men and women with the comforts of home by collecting, compiling and sending care packages overseas. Because of a significant increase in shipping costs over the last year, it has been difficult for the organization to send the care packages to our Active Service men. This year, SCU is supporting this organization by collecting monetary donations to help cover these costs.

I Support the 1% Veterans Food Pantry supports local military families facing poverty, hunger, trauma and homelessness after returning home from deployment. Any items collected during SCU’s “Support Our Troops” drive will be donated to this organization during the holiday season.

Suggested items include:

• Non-perishable food items (no expired food please): coffee, canned meats, canned soups, peanut butter/jelly, pancake mix & syrup, chips, crackers, spaghetti sauces, dry cereal, protein bars, energy drinks, instant oatmeal, microwave popcorn and pudding cups.

• Personal toiletries: shampoo, soaps, lip balm, dental floss, deodorant, baby wipes, lotion, eye drops, razors, shaving cream, laundry detergent, toothbrushes and toothpaste.

“As a veteran of the armed services, I am honored to partner with both of these great causes. We are proud to give active duty personnel a touch of home and extend a helping hand to veterans in need,” said Christopher Estes, SCU President and CEO.
